South View

We designed for passive solar, and also installed a solar hot water system (inset, also visible on the dormer roof), and 3kw of PV after this photo was taken. Our house is more properly called "sun tempered" since we're not trying to maximize how much passive solar we use.  Still, we believe we get about 25% of our heat from passive solar, just by putting extra windows on the south side, and super-insulating the house.

The house is on a corner lot, and this view is the south side.  While ideally the house would have stretched longer east-west to increase the area of the south side, zoning didn't allow us to stretch it any further.  This view is from the street on the south, which conveniently is quite a bit below the house so we can put all those windows in and still have privacy.
