First Floor
The north half of our first floor is an apartment (Accessory Dwelling Unit, or ADU) which makes the house much bigger than it would otherwise have been. The advantage is the option for rental income, someone to watch over the house while we travel, and when we're old and don't want to climb stairs, we could possibly live in it ourselves. The ADU bedroom is tucked in back in the quietest part of the house, while our bedroom is upstairs.
Both units have their "public" space organized as a great room, and have both a dining area and an eating bar. The mini office is where we pay our bills, sort thru out mail and organize the various bits of paper that always end up on counter tops. Our unit has a large window seat, while the ADU has a nook for a couch. The ADU also has a nook for a desk that get daylight thru a sun pipe.
