The front porch is a 3" slab of concrete, which is both durable and give a very solid feeling.  The railing is Trex, a recycled product, that is reinforced with a steel "u" channel.  The smaller rear porch, which is not used for sitting, is Trex decking on a pressure-treated wood frame.  The rear porch also sits on a pin foundation, which uses very little concrete.  The walkway is slate, which is partially pervious.
