Reclaimed Materials in the Landscape

used bricks rubble concrete

We used a lot of reclaimed materials in our landscape. The bricks from the old house made a wonderful garden wall (top).  Rubble concrete made various retaining walls, including two of the steps from the front of the house that broke during excavation.  (lower).  We also used old bricks to build short dry stack walls for around our gas meter and a crawlspace access hatch.  Old patio blocks turned into a small stand for our yard waste & compost bins.

In the upper picture, the impervious surface is the top of our rainwater tank which we had colored and stamped so it could double as a patio.   The slate walkways are visible in both photos.
