Flooring Choices
Our laundry area doubles as a place to dry and sometimes iron clothes. There is a utility sink in there that is shared by the studio. The window trim is sustainably harvested pine, that was originally going to be painted, but when it came it was just too pretty to paint. We used it for our baseboards also (which are painted).
Rather than use all the same flooring everywhere, we changed flooring types in different areas, to create a more interesting look. We used the salvaged Australian wood in the main areas of the second floor, and different wood in other places. The guest room and our walk in closet have salvaged oak from the old house. The guest bath and laundry use Marmolem (above, left), and in the studio we were looking for low cost, so we screwed down sheets of OSB (above, right) and just sanded and finished them.
