Pervious Paving
The driveway is often the biggest impervious surface, so we chose Ecostone, a
pervious paving system that strongly resists weeds, but yet is highly pervious.
In addition to being pervious, there is 12" of highly porous gravel (large
crushed rock, with no fines), which can hold a very large amount of water,
allowing the water to seep into the ground over time. Our situation isn't the
best use of pervious paving because the driveway slope forces us to have a
perimeter drain down by the house and much of our underlying soil is clay, which
isn't very pervious.
Pervious surfaces also help prevent storm sewer overflows.
